Mesquite Dunes, Death Valley National Park, California

Dramatic light during a sandstorm gives Nude Study III its dramatic mood—powerful, unrelenting, like a storm. With the sharp contrasts of sun and shadow, the dune became a study in drama, where detail was rendered in tone and suggestion. I had climbed a long, steep ridge the day before, hoping for soft light, but when a storm of 40+ MPH winds rolled in, I acted. And I’m glad I did. The result was this dramatic portrait of a curve, one that speaks not of spectacle but of lustful intimacy—something just barely revealed.

The Dunes collection uses architectural principles like line, shape, and balance to explore the abstract forms of sand dunes. With my background in architecture, I focus on how these natural shapes reflect patterns found in the built world, creating black-and-white images that reveal the design inherent in nature.

Dunes

With a foundation in architecture, my photographic work is deeply rooted in the core principles of design—texture, line, shape, balance, and rhythm. These elements guide the way I compose and capture each image. In this collection, the ever-shifting forms of sand dunes serve as both subject and canvas. Their natural curves and contrasts become abstract interpretations of the world around us—evoking everything from the human body to ocean waves, desert creatures, and distant city skylines.

Each photograph is an exploration of minimalism, movement, and the quiet complexity of nature’s design. Whether you’re drawn to fine art photography, modern desert landscapes, or abstract natural forms, this collection invites you to see the familiar in unexpected ways.
