Meet the Artist
JONATHAN KNIGHT
Photos You Cannot See
Jonathan Knight, an internationally awarded, self-taught photographic artist based in Denver, Colorado, is redefining how we experience landscapes—transforming them into visualizations of time, memory, and emotion. Known for his long-exposure black-and-white photography, Knight’s minimalist compositions reveal not just natural beauty but the unseen rhythms of time itself.
Born in Wichita, Kansas, Knight draws inspiration from the vast, open plains of his childhood. His signature works feature long-exposure landscapes—studies of waterfalls, seas, and mountains that transcend traditional imagery. Each photograph becomes a meditation, capturing motion and memory in ways the eye cannot perceive but the mind instinctively feels.
"His work shows a world that is not stuck, but continuous. Though abstract, his photographs offer a more accurate vision of reality—pictures of time itself, where everything felt can be seen all at once."*
Jonathan Knight’s journey into photography began during his teenage years and then studying photojournalism at Kansas State University. His early work appeared in prestigious outlets like The Associated Press. However, Knight stepped away from photography for 15 years to pursue a career in architecture. Following a successful decade in the field, the transformative period of COVID reignited his passion for photography, leading him to return full-time with enhanced technical mastery and a renewed artistic vision.
Internationally recognized for his evocative black-and-white landscapes, Knight has received numerous accolades for his ability to blend technical precision with profound emotional depth. His images, created through single exposures eschew heavy manipulation in favor of authenticity, timelessness, and raw emotional power.
The result? Fine art photography that breathes with surreal, yet serene dynamism—inviting viewers to ask questions about time, existence, and memory. Rather than offering answers, Knight’s work provides something more profound: the time and space to contemplate them.
